#1 Croatia has way too much islands! Croatia has 1246 islands and isles for you to sail through.

#2 Croatia is full of natural wonders: Almost 10% of Croatia is made up of 11 nature parks, 8 national parks and 2 nature reserves.

#3 Croatia enjoys 2715 hours of sunshine a year. That’s more than Sydney, Australia.

#4 Croats have just really a lot of World Heritage items: Croatia has highest number of UNESCO Intangible Goods of any European country.

#5 Amphitheatre in Croatia, in Pula,  is one of only 3 preserved in the world.

#6 The Walls of Ston are the longest preserved fortification system in the world after the Great Wall of China.

#7 One of the first medieval places in Europe to have a sewage system was Dubrovnik.

#8 The world’s smallest town is in Croatia. The town of “Hum” is so small its population is only between 17 to 23 people.

#9 Croatians had their own alphabet. The Glagolitic alphabet was preserved only by Croats who used it from the 12th to the 20th century, mostly in liturgy.

#10 According to Alfred Hitchcock, the city of Zadar has “the most beautiful sunset in the world, more beautiful than the one in Key West in Florida, applauded at every evening.”

#11 Tesla loved Croatia: Nicola Tesla was born in Croatia in the village Smiljan.

#12 The world’s first torpedo was constructed by Rijeka native, Ivan Lupis.

#13 Thanks to Croats you look so good in official suite: Croatia invented the necktie.

#14 That Pen you hold in your hand, it’s Croatian: Croatian Slavoljub Penkala invented a mechanical pencil, called the Penkala in 1906. Today we call it “pen.”

#15 Croatia’s Bura wind – the northern to north-eastern wind is so powerful. It was once recorded blowing on the Maslenički most at 248.4 kmph (21 December 1990).
